Indiana winters leave a mess behind. Matted leaves that didn't get picked up in fall. Dead perennial stems still standing from last year. Branches that came down in ice storms. Landscape beds with edges that have disappeared into the turf.
Our spring cleanup service gets all of that cleared out so your property is ready for the growing season. Think of it as the reset button for your yard. Everything after this point, from the first mow to the first fertilizer application, works better on a clean starting surface.
We work through the property systematically so nothing gets missed.
We clear all leaves, sticks, branches, and accumulated debris from the lawn surface. Matted leaves left over winter smother grass, block sunlight, and create ideal conditions for fungal disease. Getting them off early lets the turf breathe and green up faster.
Beds get cleaned out thoroughly. Dead annual remnants from last season, fallen leaves trapped in shrubs, broken branches, and any accumulated debris. We cut back dead perennial growth to make room for new spring growth.
Over winter, the lines between your lawn and landscape beds soften as grass creeps in and edges blur. We recut crisp, clean edges along every bed, giving your landscape definition again. This one step alone makes a huge visual difference.
Every sidewalk, driveway, and patio gets blown clean. All debris is loaded and hauled off the property. You're left with a yard that looks like winter never happened.
Most of our spring cleanup customers don't stop at the cleanup. Once your property is clean, the natural next steps become obvious:
Fresh mulch. Beds look bare after clearing. A fresh 2-3 inch layer of mulch or rock completes the look and starts suppressing weeds before they emerge.
First fertilizer round. Spring is when your pre-emergent weed control needs to go down, timed to soil temperature. Schedule it with or right after your cleanup.
Weekly mowing. With the cleanup done, your lawn is ready for the first mow of the season. We start regular service in mid-April and run through November.
We can plan all of this during your spring cleanup estimate. One visit, one conversation, and your property has a plan through fall.
A spring cleanup includes raking and removing leftover leaves and debris from winter, cleaning out landscape beds, cutting back dead perennials and ornamental grasses, edging beds and walkways, and a first mow of the season. We also check for winter damage like heaved pavers or damaged plants.
Late March through mid-April is the ideal spring cleanup window in Hamilton County. You want the ground to be thawed and dry enough to work on without compacting wet soil, but you need to get it done before the lawn starts actively growing and before pre-emergent applications go down.
Before. The spring cleanup clears debris, dead material, and matted leaves so that your first mow is clean and effective. Mowing over leftover winter debris just chops it up and spreads it around. In Hamilton County, the cleanup typically happens in late March or early April, and the first mow follows a week or two later.
Spring cleanup for a standard residential property in Hamilton County typically costs $175 to $450, depending on property size, bed complexity, and how much winter debris accumulated. Most homes in Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, and Westfield fall in the $200–$350 range.
Winter leaves behind matted debris, dead grass, and accumulated leaves that smother new growth and harbor fungal diseases like snow mold. Without cleanup, your lawn starts the season smothered and stressed. In Indiana’s clay-heavy soil, leftover debris also traps moisture and delays the soil warming that triggers spring growth.
You can, but your lawn will suffer. Mowing over matted leaves and dead debris doesn’t remove it — it just shreds it in place, continuing to smother the turf. Beds filled with dead perennial stalks and blown-in leaves look messy and harbor overwintering pests. Most Hamilton County properties need at least a basic cleanup to start the season right.
